I realize that I am doing a terrible job of even keeping this site up to date. Simple fact of the matter is I have been too busy to prioritize maintaining this. In the near future I will probably overhaul the whole thing. But yes, I have been building sites and apps (and getting much better at it).

Wordpress work

Despite the lack of recent updates, I have not been idle in the least. Here’s 2 freelance wordpress sites I built recently:

Now that version 1.3 is out, we have made the museum app an open-source, community project. Hopefully this will lead to more rapid improvement, and other developers finding flaws that I missed. You can get involved in the project here

Long story short:

We started building this application in January, tried to release it in March.

It was my first app, and it’s free. Just plays audio clips from Night of the Living Dead. It has received only average ratings… but it’s a free app and it does exactly what it says it will, so I don’t know why people have to judge it so. Do people want it to make real zombies? Well, I do too.

As far as I know, this has not been released in the App Store yet. We did this for a client in Feb - March. It’s simply a Loves Me, Loves Me Not Daisy, and the backgrounds and animations came out beautifully, if I may say so. Look for this to be $.99 soon, from Big Slide.

Brooklyn Museum Mobile Collection

Brooklyn Museum Mobile Collection

So I’ve been working on this Brooklyn Museum iPhone app on and off for a couple weeks, and it’s almost done. I went to the museum yesterday and met their amazing tech team, and showed them the app on my phone. They posted an interview with me in their blog, and it since started to gain some coverage elsewhere. I guess I better finish it!

Here’s the interview

Here’s some more coverage

Just so everyone knows, this app is a long-term project, as is the API itself on the museum side. Version 1.0, in my mind, is pretty bare-bones. It’s going to be months before the app really lives up to its potential. This is only the beginning!

Just switched my site over to a wordpress blog. It’s starting to feel like I build a new website every year, so hopefully this incarnation will last for awhile. Here’s the story. In the late spring of 2008, I was interested in experimenting with the new Away3D Actionscript 3.0 engine,  and also happened to be dissatisfied with my portfolio. The two previous versions failed to demonstrate much of my technical abilities, and I think later I am going to dig up some screenshots of them. So I set about learning Away3D as I built my new portfolio. It was quite a bit of fun!

My plan was thus: to get a grasp on the engine, and build a site that I would expand as time went on. It was going to be experimental, starting out with a little bit of interactivity, but ultimately incorporating more and more gamelike elements. This, however, proved to be unrealistic. I am simply far too busy, with far too many projects and interests to maintain any sort of disciplined approach to overhauling my site. Almost a year has gone by now and all I have done is upload a few new project screenshots. My needs for this site have changed: I need to quickly post content and updates without doing any real coding, because there is plenty of coding waiting for me elsewhere. This is what the site did look like:

The old site with its portfolio is still online here. In the meantime, stay tuned for more updates very soon!
